COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The UTSA track and field teams opened competition on Friday at E.B. Cushing Stadium during the first day of Texas A&M’s 44 Farms Team Invitational. The Roadrunners produced a medal with an Ida Breigan win, also collecting a school record in the high jump and three top 10 finishes among the 31-team field.
Competing mid-afternoon on the first day of competition, Breigan (sophomore/Frederikstad, Norway) came away with a 6.17m (20-3) measurement on her first pass at the long jump, moving to the front of the field. However, she extended her lead to take the win with a 6.20m (20-4.25) leap on her closing attempt of the final – earning a 44 Farms Invite hat and the Aggie Maroon baton. Senior Oreoluwa Adamson also logged a sixth-place finish in the event with a 5.98m (19-7.5) measurement.
During the early hours of the meet, redshirt freshman Mia Lien (Jakobsli, Norway) won her high jump section of the heptathlon while rising being her own shared school record with a 1.83m (6-0) height. Lien also finished sixth in the 200m section at 24.03 seconds and currently ranks fourth in the heptathlon field with 3,446 points on the first day. Sophomore Edlin Laur also collected a four-place section finish in the high jump with a 1.74m (5-8.5).
Late in the day, sophomore transfer Nyaluet Diew earned ninth place in the women’s shot put with a 15.67m (51-5), coming just .07m shy of her outdoor career best from the season-opening UTSA Invitational.
Back in action on Saturday, heptathlon competition will resume at 11:30 a.m., with the decathlon restarting at 10:30 a.m. The field events will start at 2 p.m. on Saturday, kicking off with the women’s hammer and closing on the women’s javelin. Running events begin at 6 p.m. with the 4x100m relays and close after 9 p.m. on the 4x400m relays.
After wrapping up in College Station, the next trip will send the Roadrunners out west for the 65th Annual Mt. SAC Relays, held in Walnut, California, April 16-19.
