SAN ANTONIO – UTSA Director Track & Field/Cross Country Aaron Fox unveiled the latest addition to the Roadrunners’ jump squad, announcing on Friday that UTSA has added seven-time Switzerland National Champion long jumper Cyrill Kernbach to the roster for next season.
“We are excited to build on our strong men’s jumper history with another multi-year national champion that carries the experience of performing on the international stage,” Fox said. “I am excited to welcome Cyrill Kernbach to UTSA and get to work on helping him grow toward his goals on the runway and in the classroom.”
Hailing originally from Zufikon, Switzerland, Kernbach earned a repeat win in the long jump at the Swiss U23 Championships last August, following up his career-best leap of 7.74m (25-4.75) that earned him second at the all-classes Swiss Championships last June at Stadion Deutweg in Winterthur, Switzerland. He also placed third at the Swiss Indoor Championships last year.
Previously in the long jump, Kernbach won the 2023 Swiss Championships, 2022 Swiss U20 Championships, 2021 Swiss U20 Championships and the 2020 Swiss U18 Outdoor and Indoor Championships, starting his national champion run as the 2019 U18 Swiss champion. In addition, Kernbach placed 10th while representing Switzerland at the 2022 World Athletics U20 Championships at Pascual Guerrero Stadium in Cali, Colombia, and earned sixth at the 15th European Youth Olympic Festival in Baku, Azerbaijan in 2019.
He climbed to No. 244 in the world among all men’s long jumpers during the 2024 season.
