Roadrunners to compete in The Aggie Invitational this weekend

SAN ANTONIO — UTSA will travel to Bryan, Texas, to compete in The Aggie Invitational, which will be hosted by Texas A&M on Saturday-Sunday, April 12-13, at Traditions Club (par 72/7,227 yards).

The Roadrunners’ lineup will feature Jack Wehman, Logan Vargas, Walker Franklin, Brayden Bare and Jacob King. That group will face off against Baylor, Lamar, Louisiana, Louisiana Tech, New Mexico State, North Texas, No. 6 Oklahoma, Rice, Sam Houston, Tarleton and the 19th-ranked host Aggies.

The field will play 36 holes on Saturday followed by the final round on Sunday.

The Roadrunners will play in The Aggie Invitational for the fifth straight year and 10th time overall. Last year, UTSA registered its best finish in the event, tying for fifth place with a 900 (292-309-299) behind a seventh-place effort from NCAA regional qualifier Hunter Bott.

UTSA is coming off a 15th-place finish at the All-American Intercollegiate last month at the Golf Club of Houston. Wehman carded an even-par 216 (71-74-71) to end up in a five-way tie for 12th, a season-best showing for the Austin native.

Wehman will enter this weekend’s edition of The Aggie Invitational with a 73.8 stroke average, the second-best mark in the team. He has posted six par-or-better rounds and is coming off his top individual finish of the season with his 12th-place tie at the All-American Intercollegiate.

Vargas carries a 75.38 scoring average in 24 rounds during his debut season with the Roadrunners. The junior from Lubbock has logged four par-or-better scorecards with as low of 3-under 69 at the Trinity Forest Invitational last fall when he recorded his top finish of 43rd.

Franklin has played in all eight team events this season and totes a 75.42 stroke average in 24 rounds. The senior out of Colorado has turned in four par-or-better scores and charted his top finish with a tie for 32nd at the Vaqueros Intercollegiate earlier this year.

Bare boasts a 75.52 average in 21 rounds during his redshirt sophomore campaign. The Waco native posted his top finish of the season with a tie for sixth at the All-American Individual which featured his second 1-under 71 of the season.

King has competed in a pair of tournaments over the past several weeks, tying for 16th at the All-American Individual last month and grabbing a share of 10th at the OU Spring Indy last week.
