SAN ANTONIO — UTSA will travel to Florida for the Coach Mo Classic, which will be co-hosted by Furman and North Florida on Monday-Tuesday, March 31-April 1, at St. John's Golf and Country Club in St. Augustine.
The Roadrunners’ lineup of Daniela Abonce, Maria Bastarrica, Morgan Ellison, Lauren Rios and Olivia Williams will compete against Belmont, No. 44 College of Charleston, Charlotte, Daytona State, FGCU, FIU, Furman, Lipscomb, Minnesota, North Florida, No. 39 Purdue, St. Thomas, Southern Illinois, Toledo and Western Kentucky.
The field will play 36 holes on Monday and 18 on Tuesday with a 7:30 a.m. CT shotgun start scheduled for both days.
This will mark the first of two consecutive trips to the Sunshine State for the Roadrunners, as they are slated to play in the American Athletic Conference Championship on April 14-16 at Southern Hills Plantation Club in Brooksville.
UTSA is coming off a seventh-place showing at the Clover Cup on March 10-12 in Arizona. Abonce tied for 20th with a 6-over-par 216 (74-71-71) and Ellison grabbed a share of 24th (71-76-72—219) to lead the way.
Abonce paces the Roadrunners with a 73.54 stroke average in 24 rounds this season. The junior out of Veracruz, Mexico, owns five top-20 finishes in 2024-25, headlined by a tie for third place at the Badger Invitational last September. She also has even par-or-better rounds for the campaign with her top score of 5-under 67 coming in the final round of the Jim West Challenge last fall.
Ellison stands second on the squad with a 74.21 scoring mark to go with six top-30 showings. The senior from Peachtree Coty, Georgia, logged her top finish of the season with her tie for 24th at the Clover Cup while she has turned in six par-or-better scorecards in 2024-25.
Rios has registered a 74.44 average and a pair of par-or-better scores in nine rounds this spring. The Coppell, Texas, native recorded her top 54-hole score of 3-over 219 at the Chevron Collegiate and her best finish was a tie for 41st at the Clover Cup.
Williams carries a 74.49 stroke average in 24 rounds during her junior campaign. The Worcestershire, England, product has posted four par-or-better rounds paced by a 2-under 70 for the opening 18 holes of the Diane Thomason Invitational last fall when she charted her top finish of the season by tying for fifth.
Bastarrica has a 76.38 average through 24 rounds. The sophomore from San Sebastian, Spain, logged her top finish of the season when she tied for 25th at the Diane Thomas Invitational, while her top 54-hole score was a 222 that was highlighted by a 1-under 71 in the first round at the Red Raider Invitational.
