SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA track and field teams came away from Friday’s action at the 97th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays with a medal and a pair of top five finishes at the annual nationally elite competition at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin. In the meantime, UTSA also collected a trio of top 10 finishes at the Bobcat Invitational in San Marcos.
Making the biggest splash of the meet for the Roadrunners at the Texas Relays, Frederikstad, Norway sophomore All-American Ida Breigan delivered the goods in the women’s long jump final, hitting 6.37m (20-10.75) on her first attempt and then matching that measurement on the first pass of the final, garnering third place and second among collegiate performers. In the current national standings, that mark places her third among jumpers in NCAA DI.
A pair of newcomers advanced in their respective hurdles preliminaries during Thursday’s races and competed in the final late on Friday. Sandnes, Norway freshman Selma Ims logged a 57.40 clocking in the women’s 400m hurdles final to collect fifth place. Likewise in the men’s race, Cysoing, France grad transfer Hugo Menin came in at 51.69 for fifth in the 400m hurdles final.
At the Bobcat Invitational, Jakobsli, Norway freshman Mia Lien produced the top finish of the day, coming in fourth in the women’s long jump A with a new NCAA No. 12 mark of 6.09m (19-11.75) in her first collegiate outdoor long jump. Tallinn, Estonia sophomore Edlin Laur also secured a ninth-place finish in the event with a 5.78m (18-11.75) measurement. Coming down the stretch on the day, Laredo, Texas freshman Ryan Stillman put in a new personal best in the shot put B section with a fifth-place heave of 15.59m (51-1.75).
The Roadrunners will resume competition at both meets on Saturday. At the Texas Relays, the 4x200m relay will compete at 12 p.m. In San Marcos, the high jump will commence events for the day at 10 a.m.
