‘Runners fall to Owls in series opener

SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA softball team suffered a 13-0 run-rule defeat at the hands of No. 22 Florida Atlantic in an American Athletic Conference series opener on Friday at Roadrunner Field.

The Roadrunners (14-17, 2-8 The American) fell to the Owls (30-5, 9-1 The American), as freshman Reagan Stoudt (0-5) was tagged with the loss and Autumn Courtney (14-1) went the distance for the win. Additionally, newcomer Sabrina Wick provided the ‘Runners lone hit on the day.

Stoudt tossed a clean top of the first before a passed ball, and an error allowed FAU to snag a 3-0 lead in the second. They then added six runs in the fourth and four in the fifth, building a 13-0 advantage and halting the contest early.

UTSA will look to bounce back on Saturday, with Strike Out Ovarian Cancer festivities beginning at noon, ahead of the series finale on Sunday at 1 p.m.
