NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The UTSA softball team suffered a 13-4 defeat via the run rule at the hands of Lipscomb in nonconference action at Smith Stadium on Tuesday.
The Roadrunners (13-14, 1-5 The American) fell to the Bison (14-13, 1-2 ASUN), as freshman Ava Eldridge (3-2) was tagged with the loss, and Ryleigh Sapp (4-3) earned the win.
A trio of squad members posted multiple hits, including senior Lindsey Davis, junior Katia Reyes, and sophomore Caton Letbetter. Additionally, senior Jaylen Prichard drove in a pair of runs, while redshirt freshman Makayla Madrid and Letbetter joined her in logging RBIs.
The ‘Runners pushed across a run in the top of the first, as Rucker singled before coming around to score on a Prichard double.
The Bison replied in the third, putting up a trio of runs to take a 3-1 lead. UTSA responded right away, as they loaded the bases with two outs in the top of the fourth. From there, Prichard was walked, and Madrid was plunked, knotting the contest 3-3.
The tie didn’t last long, as Lipscomb took advantage of multiple miscues to build a 6-3 advantage in the home half.
A base knock for Letbetter scored Davis to pull UTSA within two, but Lipscomb found some insurance, plating four in the fifth to work a 10-4 edge. Three more runs in the bottom of the sixth halted the contest early, with Lipscomb securing a 13-4 win.
UTSA will look to bounce back this weekend, as they are set to host Wichita State for a three-game American Athletic Conference series beginning Friday at Roadrunner Field.
