UTSA tops Denver for 15th win

SAN ANTONIO — The UTSA Roadrunners picked up their 15th win of the season defeating Denver 4-3 on Sunday, Mar. 16 at the UTSA Tennis Center in San Antonio, Texas.

The Roadrunners are now 15-2 with a 7-1 home record and an 8-0 road record. Their only two losses have come against American Athletic Conference opponents.

In singles, the Roadrunners are now 58-22 with Arina Babenko leading the team with a 14-0 record. In doubles, the Roadrunners are now 28-15. With Babenko and Valeria Sanchez winning in today’s match, they are now 2-0 as a team this season.

The Roadrunners will host UTRGV at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Mar. 18 at the UTSA Tennis Center in San Antonio, Texas.

Match 17
In doubles, Denver won the first match at No. 1 6-2. On No. 2, Babenko and Sanchez defeated their opponents 6-4 to even doubles at 1-1. On No. 3, Denver secured the doubles point, winning 7-6 (4).

Denver took their second point of the match winning on No. 5 6-0, 6-2. UTSA earned their first point of the match as Letizia Corsini won by retirement in the second set after winning the first set 6-3, 4-2 on No. 2. Babenko was able to tie the match as she won 6-3, 6-2 on No. 4 to remain undefeated in singles play this season.

On No. 1 Denver regained the lead as they won 6-4, 7-5 to make the score 3-2. To tie the match once again, Vittoria Baccino won on No. 3 7-6 (4), 6-2 forcing the match to be decided on court six.

Natalia Castaneda Guerrero lost her first set 3-6 but came back to win the second set 6-4 forcing a third set. Castaneda was able to secure the win for the Roadrunners as she won the third set 6-4.
