VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – With two Norwegian student-athletes representing the UTSA women’s track and field team this weekend, sophomore Ida Breigan and freshman Mia Lien will begin their indoor postseason competition on Friday at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships. Both Roadrunners will be in action on Friday at the Virginia Beach Sports Center in the long jump and the pentathlon.
Breigan (Fredrikstad, Norway) will repeat at the national meet in the long jump after earning First Team All-America laurels last year in Boston, notching a sixth-place finish on her opening leap of 6.38m (20-11.25) – becoming only the second UTSA First Team All-American honor in the indoor women’s long jump event. The previous honoree was UTSA Hall-of-Famer Tameka Roberts in 1996 with a 6.21m, sixth-place jump. Looking for another on her ledger, Breigan is the owner of one of the 10 NCAA Indoor Championships All-American honors in school history. Defending her crown as American Athletic Conference champion and again awarded the AAC’s Field Most Outstanding Performance, Breigan’s top mark this season was 6.53m (21-5.25) to win the conference title. She ranks 13th in the nation heading into the meet.
A newcomer from Jakobsli, Norway, Lien has taken the pentathlon by storm in her rookie season, winning the AAC Championship with a school record of 4,194 points, also extending her own high jump school record in the process with a 1.83m (6-0) height. Lien also set personal bests in the process in the 60-meter hurdles, shot put and 800-meter. In claiming the conference crown, Lien won the high jump and long jump sections. Sharing the honor with Breigan, she was named AAC Field Most Outstanding Performance and ranks 13th in the NCAA in the pentathlon. The Roadrunners have one previous All-American in the pentathlon, Ryanne Dupree in 2006, who earned fourth with a total of 4,193 points – the prior UTSA-record score that Lien broke at the AACs by a single point.
For Lien, the women’s pentathlon will open the meet’s competition in Virginia Beach with the 60m hurdles at 9:35 a.m., followed at 10:45 a.m. by the high jump, shot put at 12:45 p.m., long jump at 2 p.m. and wrapping up at 3:05 with the 800m.
Breigan will begin competition in the long jump at 3:30 p.m.
The NCAA Indoor Championships will air live on ESPN+. Running events will appear on the broadcast here. Field events will be on a separate broadcast here.
The 2025 UTSA Outdoor season will begin next week with a home meet at the Park West Athletics Complex, as the Roadrunners host the UTSA Invitational, March 21-22.
