Roadrunners dominate long jump, set record to open Charlie Thomas Invite

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Ida Breigan registered another event victory, followed in quick succession by three more Roadrunners in the women’s long jump, while Mia Lien topped her own school high jump record in opening action at the Charlie Thomas Invitational, Friday at the R.A. "Murray" Fasken '38 Indoor track facility

In the afternoon of the first day of competition at Fasken, Lien rose above 1.81m (5-11.25) in the high jump event of the pentathlon, placing second in the section and topping her own 1.80m indoor record from the opening week at Northern Arizona. Using personal bests in the 60m hurdles (8.92), shot put (9.14m) and 800m (2:20.01), Lien also finished with the bronze medal in the event on a career-high 4,045 points – placing her second on UTSA’s all-time performances in the pentathlon.

As the meet wound down for the day, Breigan registered her second long jump victory of the season, matching her measurement from week one at 6.50m (21-4), which already lists at No. 10 nationally. Just behind Breigan, Brina Likar picked up her second career medal with a third-place leap of 6.13m (20-1.5), while Orelewa Adamson was fourth at 6.06m (19-10.75) and Rachela Pace was fifth at 5.96m (19-6.75).

The Roadrunners also logged advances to Saturday’s finals in both segments of the 60m hurdles. Selma Ims was fifth overall in the preliminary, running 8.52 in the third heat, while Zane Hodges was seventh overall with an 8.35 in the opening heat of the men’s portion.

Christiaan Le Roux just missed a medal in the men’s long jump, producing a 7.55m (24-9.25) measurement to finish fourth. In the throws, Michael Campbell came in sixth in the shot put at 15.96m (52-4.25) while Garrett Stokes was eighth at 15.61m (51-2.75). Opening up the day’s events, Nyaluet Diew was 10th with a women’s weight throw mark of 16.47m (54-0.5).

The Roadrunners return to Fasken Indoor on Saturday with the day’s events beginning at 10 a.m. on the men’s weight throw (additional field events beginning at 2 p.m.) and the afternoon running events kicking off with the 3,000-meter at 1:15 p.m. A typical staple, the meet will conclude near 7 p.m. with the 4x400-meter relays.
