SAN ANTONIO – The top two teams in the American Athletic Conference standings are set to meet on Tuesday as UTSA hosts North Texas at 6:30 p.m. in the Convocation Center. The matchup will be the 'Runners annual Play4Kay Cancer Awareness contest, as well as a Salute to Healthcare presented by UT Health San Antonio. Additionally, fans can receive a "Box Out Cancer" T-shirt upon entry thanks to Cowboy's Air Conditioning & Heating, and there will be free pizza for students in the back lobby of The Convo.
The game will be broadcast live on ESPN+ with Karl Schoening (play-by-play), Carlie Heineman (analyst) and Taylor Guajardo (reporter) on the call. Neal Raphael will deliver all the action on the radio in the greater San Antonio area on The Bull 93.3 FM and worldwide on the iHeartRadio app.
The Roadrunners (19-3, 9-1 The American) are fresh off a 70-61 victory over Temple on Saturday, which saw them erase a 14-point second-half deficit en route to their program-record 12th consecutive win at home. The triumph was also the team's 18th of the campaign, tying last season and seven other squads for the fourth-most in a single season.
Redshirt senior Jordyn Jenkins paced UTSA with 16 points, six rebounds, two assists, and two steals, while sophomore Idara Udo was not far behind, dropping 15 points and nine boards. Graduate student Nina De Leon Negron charted 14 points to go with eight assists and five rebounds. Junior Cheyenne Rowe scored 12, including a huge momentum-shifting step-back three.
Jenkins leads the conference in several statistics, including points, with 376 and 18.8 PPG are 38th in the NCAA. She also has connected on 136 field goals and boasts a free throw percentage of 82.9. Jenkins checks in at fourth on the blocking leader board with 25 swats, and her 7.2 RPG are ninth in the league. De Leon Negron is 25th nationally with 5.3 APG, and she's dished out 105 total helpers for the 36th-most in the country.
As a team, the Roadrunners have the 8th-best rebound margin nationally at plus-10.5, and 15.3 offensive rebounds per game are 18th. The club's scoring defense of 56.9 is 40th, while 40.3 rebounds per game are 44th. Rounding out their rankings in the top 50, 4.1 blocks per game are 50th in the NCAA.
The Mean Green (16-6, 8-2 The American) took down Temple last week, 70-67, before falling to South Florida 65-58.
Tommisha Lampkin has been incredible for UNT, with 11 double-doubles on the year, slotting her 11th across the country. She averages 16.7 PPG and 9.2 RPG, all while maintaining a 57.0% clip from the field that ranks 24th. Lampkin excels at getting to the charity stripe with 142 attempts, placing her 15th nationally, and 88 makes are 52nd. North Texas is 18th as a squad with 21.0 free throw attempts per game, and 14.8 makes are 28th.
Four squad members score in double-figures as Lampkin is joined by Desiree Wooten at 11.3 PPG, with Ereauna Hardaway and Kyla Deck both at 10.1 PPG. Defensively, Aniyah Johnson leads the way with 22 blocks and Wooten in steals with 36.
