‘Runners to host Birds Up Bash

Boise State, Le Moyne and Houston will make the trip to San Antonio

SAN ANTONIO—The UTSA softball team is set to host the 2025 Birds Up Bash this week at Roadrunner Field, with Boise State, Le Moyne and Houston all making the trek to San Antonio.

Competition for the ‘Runners will begin on Friday at 3:30 p.m., when they face Boise State, ahead of a 6 p.m. showdown with Le Moyne. Pool play will conclude at 1 p.m. on Saturday, with UTSA facing Houston before knockout play that afternoon. The Champions of the Birds Up Bash will be decided on Sunday, with first pitch of the finale at 1 p.m.

The Roadrunners (9-5) last went 2-1 at the Roadrunner Classic with victories over Michigan State and St. Thomas (MN) before falling to Sam Houston on the final day of competition. Additionally, the ‘Runners will look to avoid a three-game skid after suffering a setback at the hands of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Wednesday.

Freshman Kaylie Olivarez was named the American Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week for her troubles, as she picked up both of UTSA’s wins at the Roadrunner Classic and posted a 0.00 ERA.

The #RV Broncos (12-3) have been incredible early in the campaign, with just a trio of losses against Utah Valley, Florida International and Indiana. Additionally, Boise State is riding a seven-game winning streak.

The pitching staff owns a 3.88 ERA, with Brook Thompson going 5-0, while Abby Dowell holds a 4-1 mark. Sophia Knight has been the spark on offense with a .617 AVG and a 1.336 OPS. Chloe Hughes, Megan Lake and Mykenzie Hanna join her in holding batting averages over .400.

The Dolphins (2-8) hold wins over Brown and Youngstown State on the year and will look to right the ship this weekend. Alyssa Dybacz paces the team with a .296 AVG, found doubles, and a home run. Nevaeh Ross has gone 1-3 with a complete game and a save, striking out 13 over 25.1 innings in the circle.

The Cougars (10-4) had a 6-3 midweek victory over Tarleton and narrowly fell to Louisiana in the only contest of last week’s Ragin’ Cajun Invitational that wasn’t canceled due to severe weather.

Three members of the squad are tied for a team-leading 18 RBIs in the form of Brooke Wells, Maddie Hartley and Makenna Mitchell. Wells holds a .395 AVG with four home runs, and Hartley matches her with four long balls in 2025. Eight different pitchers have entered the circle for the Cougars, as Hartley, Gigi Soliz, and Nevaeh Brown have each posted multiple wins.
