‘Runners to face Rice on the road

UTSA will take on the Owls on Saturday in Houston

SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA women's basketball team eyes its 23rd victory of the season as they trek to Houston to take on Rice on Saturday at 4 p.m. in the Tudor Fieldhouse. The squads previously met in San Antonio when the 'Runners worked a 67-58 triumph in early January. Redshirt senior Jordyn Jenkins charted 21 points and 14 rebounds, while graduate student Nina De Leon Negron scored 19 with eight boards and five assists.

The game will be broadcast live on ESPN+, with Sam Kaman (play-by-play), Brooke Kirchhofer (analyst) and Olivia Guzman (reporter) on the call.  Neal Raphael will deliver all the action on the radio in the greater San Antonio area on The Bull 93.3 FM and worldwide on the iHeartRadio app.

The Roadrunners (22-3, 12-1 The American) had a week of rest, last taking down Memphis, 80-61 at the Convocation Center. The victory secured a top-four finish in conference play and a double-bye in the 2025 American Championship Tournament. UTSA's 22nd win on the year moved them into sole possession of the third-most in program history and two wins away from tying the all-time mark of 24 from the 2008-09 campaign. Sophomore Idara Udo recorded her fifth double-double of the season to the tune of 14 points and 13 rebounds. Classmate Aysia Proctor posted a season-high 15 points. De Leon Negron led all scorers with 16 and also recorded six assists and four rebounds.

UTSA remains ranked in the top 50 nationally in a slew of statistics, including rebounds margin (10th – plus-9.6), offensive rebounds per game (14th – 15.4), scoring defense (29th – 56.1), field goal percentage defense (24th – 36.6) and blocks per game (41st – 4.3). Individually, Jenkins averages 18.5 PPG for the 38th-most in the country, and she's 75th in total points at 444. The Renton, Washington, native also leads The American in free throws with 108 and is second in the league with an 81.8% clip from the charity stripe. She's second in field goals (158), field goal percentage (47.2) and free throw attempts (132).

The Owls (13-3, 6-8 The American) host Senior Day on Saturday and, in their last contest, dominated Florida Atlantic for a 72-39 win. Rice averages 28.9 offensive rebounds per game for the 17th highest in the NCAA. They're just behind the 'Runners in rebounds per game, with 40.6, and Victoria Flores has been a deadeye from the free-throw line, converting a conference-leading 81.9%. 

Malia Fisher paces the team in scoring at 13.8 PPG, with Dominique Ennis not far behind at 12.3. Hailey Adams commands the glass with 7.2 rebounds per game, and she's one block below Sussy Ngelefac, whose 22 lead the Owls.
