SAN ANTONIO — The Roadrunners improve to 13-0 and 1-0 in conference play by defeating USF 4-2 on Friday, Feb. 21 at the Varsity Tennis Courts in Tampa, Fla.
UTSA is now 13-0 to start the season, which extends the best start to a season in program history. The Roadrunners have a 5-0 home record and 8-0 road record. UTSA has outscored their opponents 58-13 this season.
In singles, UTSA is 47-11, with Arina Babenko leading the team as she is a perfect 10-0. In doubles, The Roadrunners are 25-8 with a tandem of Valeria Sanchez and Ekua Youri leading the team with an 8-1 record.
The Roadrunners will take on Tulane in the first neutral match of the season at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 22, in Tampa, Fla.
Match 13
After losing on No.1, the Roadrunners bounced back and managed to take the doubles point thanks to Youri and Sanchez as they defeated their opponents 6-3 on No. 2. To secure the doubles point, Aoka Nagasawa and Babenko took down their opponents 7-5.
To open singles play, Nagasawa handled her opponent quickly at No. 6 6-1, 6-0 to give the Roadrunners a 2-0 lead. USF managed to tie the match at 2-2 after winning on courts No. 4 and No. 1.
Babenko earned her tenth singles win of the season by taking down her opponent 6-5, 6-1 at No. 5 to put the Roadrunners up 3-2. To secure UTSA’s 13th victory, Vittoria Baccino defeated her opponent 6-2, 3-6, 7-5 at No. 3 for her ninth singles win and third straight match-clinching victory.
