SAN ANTONIO — UTSA sophomore Vittoria Baccino has been named the American Athletic Conference Women’s Tennis Player of the Week, the conference announced on Tuesday, Feb. 18.

Baccino is coming off a perfect 2-0 weekend in singles play, recording a pair of three-set victories at No. 3 in dramatic fashion to help the Roadrunners improve to 12-0, the best start in program history.

Baccino opened the weekend with a 6-3 doubles victory teamed with Letizia Corsini over Tarleton. She then went on to singles, where she clinched a 4-3 UTSA win with a 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 decision over Maria Castano.

In Sunday’s 4-3 triumph over Houston, Baccino was once again the deciding factor, as she scored a 7-5, 3-6, 7-6 (7) win over Heta Nuutinen.

A native of Savona, Italy, Baccino is now 8-1 in singles play and 6-2 in doubles action this season.

The Roadrunners will open conference play, taking on South Florida (1-8) at 11 a.m. CT on Friday, Feb. 21, in Tampa.
