SAN ANTONIO — UTSA women’s tennis stays dominant to start the season as they improved to 12-0 after beating Houston 12-0 on Sunday, February 16 in San Antonio, Texas at the UTSA Tennis Center.
The Roadrunners are a perfect 12-0 this season with a 4-0 home record. The Roadrunners have outscored their opponents by a score of 54-11, only allowing seven opponents to score a point. In singles, the Roadrunners are 44-9 and in doubles, they are 23-7.
The Roadrunners will face off in their first conference match of the season, taking on South Florida at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 21, in Tampa, Fla.
Match 12
The Roadrunners managed to take the doubles point as a team of Natalia Castaneda Guerrero and Aoka Nagasawa beat their opponents 6-0, as a team Nagasawa and Guerrero are 3-1. To clinch the doubles point, Valeria Sanchez and Ekua Youri defeated their opponents 6-3 to put UTSA up 1-0.
Houston tied the match by winning the first singles match at No. 6. Sanchez managed to put UTSA up 2-1 by winning at No. 4 7-5, 7-5. The Roadrunners extended their lead to 3-1 when Arina Babenko took down her opponent 6-3, 7-6 (9) at No. 5.
Houston managed to tie the match up at 3-3 by winning on both courts one and two. The Roadrunners earned the victory when Vittoria Baccino defeated her opponent at No. 3 in a hard-fought battle, 7-5, 3-6, 7-6 (7).
