Sophomores shine as 'Runners maul Memphis, 80-61

Aysia Proctor scored a season-high 15 points, while Idara Udo posted a double-double

SAN ANTONIO—The UTSA women's basketball team secured an 80-61 victory over Memphis in American Athletic Conference action at the Convocation Center on Saturday. The victory was the 'Runners 15th consecutive at home, extending a program record streak and keeping UTSA undefeated in The Convo. Additionally, 1,523 fans packed the stand for the third-largest crowd in program history.

The Roadrunners (22-3, 12-1 The American) topped the Tigers (6-18, 4-9 The American), as the win secured a top-four finish in conference play, as well as a double-bye in the 2025 American Championship Tournament. UTSA's 22nd victory on the year moves them into sole possession of the third-most in program history and two wins away from tying the all-time mark of 24 from the 2008-09 campaign.

Sophomore Idara Udo recorded her fifth double-double of the year to the tune of 14 points and 13 rebounds. Classmate Aysia Proctor posted a season-high 15 points. Graduate student Nina De Leon Negron led all scorers with 16 and also recorded six assists and four rebounds. Junior Cheyenne Rowe put in a solid shift with nine points and three boards, while redshirt senior Jordyn Jenkins was not far behind, scoring eight. Sophomore Sidney Love had an all-around solid game with eight points, six rebounds, and four assists.

Memphis jumped out to a 7-4 advantage early in the first, but buckets for Udo and De Leon Negron quickly handed UTSA an edge. After exchanging blows, junior Maya Linton and De Leon Negron connected on back-to-back three-pointers for a 19-15 lead, and the opposition swiftly replied for a 19-19 tie at the period's conclusion.

The Tigers opened the second on a 14-2 run, building a 33-21 edge. A Proctor triple halted the streak, and a later trey by Love kick-started an 8-0 the surge that brought the 'Runners within two. Freshman Taylor Ross and Rowe recorded makes, and a pair of Memphis freebies allowed them to cap off the half with a 40-38 lead.

Jenkins nailed a corner three to kick-start the third, with a Proctor jumper moments later bookending a 9-2 spurt. A flurry of free throws shortly after saw a 53-47 UTSA edge, and the Roadrunners carried a 57-52 lead into the final frame.

A De Leon Negron triple and a Proctor jumper extended the UTSA advantage to 11, and worked a 68-57 score line in the fourth, building a lead that they wouldn't relinquish. The 'Runners held the Tigers to nine points in the final frame, cruising to an 80-61 victory.

UTSA will next face Rice on Saturday at Tudor Fieldhouse in Houston.
