SAN ANTONIO — The UTSA men’s and women’s track and field teams will be in competition in two locations this week for the first time during the indoor season. The two parties of Roadrunners will be headed to Houston for UofH’s Howie Ryan Invitational on Friday, Feb. 14, as well as Vanderbilt’s Music City Challenge in Nashville on both Friday and Saturday, Feb. 15. These events are the fourth and fifth meets of the indoor season, and the final competitions before the American Athletic Conference Championships.
With UTSA’s women’s long jump crew remaining at sixth in the national event squad rankings, the jump field events have dominated the team’s headlines for the Roadrunners this indoor season. Leading the way, Ida Breigan remains atop the American Athletic Conference standings and at No. 10 in the nation with a long jump measurement of 6.50m (21-4). Mia Lien ranks 22nd in the high jump at 1.81m (5-11.25) and 28th with 4,045 points in the pentathlon. Rachela Pace and Shadae Findley aren’t on the schedule this week but is 29th in the triple jump and 42nd in the 400m, respectively. On the men’s side, Christiaan Le Roux is 38th in the long jump at 7.59m (24-11).
The larger of the two traveling parties at 36 Roadrunner student-athletes, the Howie Ryan Invitational opens up at 11 a.m. at Yeoman Fieldhouse with the weight throw ahead of the shot put and then the long jump and triple jump. Running events start with the mile at 1:30 p.m. and run into the late afternoon, concluding with the 3,000m then relays.
The Roadrunners will compete against squads from Houston (host), Houston Christian, Incarnate Word, Lamar, Louisiana Monroe, Rice, Stephen F. Austin and Texas A&M-Kingsville.
Houston Athletics will run live results through Flash Results. The competition at Yeoman Fieldhouse will be streamed live through the Houston YouTube page.
A smaller party focused on distance, five Roadrunner student-athletes will be traveling to Nashville for the Music City Challenge, which runs from Friday, Feb. 14 through Saturday, Feb. 15, at the Vanderbilt Multipurpose Facility. UTSA’s competition begins on Friday in the late afternoon at 4:45 p.m. with the mile and then picks up again on Saturday at 8:30 a.m. with the 3,000m, followed by the 800m at 10:20 a.m.

Following this weekend’s events, the Roadrunners will begin preparations for American Athletic Conference Indoor Championships in Birmingham, Alabama at the Birmingham Crossplex, Feb 28 through March 1.
