SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA women's basketball team is set to host East Carolina on Wednesday, with a 6:30 p.m. tip in the Convocation Center. The contest will be an American Athletic Conference Showcase game and will also serve as the squad's annual Black History Month game. Additionally, while supplies last, fans can receive a free Black History Month T-shirt upon entry.
The game will be broadcast live on ESPN+, with Karl Schoening (play-by-play), Carlie Heineman (analyst) and Maria Trivelpiece (reporter) on the call. Neal Raphael will deliver all the action on the radio in the greater San Antonio area on The Bull 93.3 FM and worldwide on the iHeartRadio app.
The Roadrunners (20-3, 11-1 The American) will look to remain undefeated at home and extend their program-record 13-game winning streak in The Convo.
Last week, they edged past North Texas, 54-52, before besting Wichita State 60-49 to remain atop The American standings. Sophomore Idara Udo was incredible for the team, posting back-to-back double-doubles on the week, first dropping 11 points and 10 rebounds against the Mean Green, ahead of a 14-point, 12-rebound performance against the Shockers.
Udo's prowess on the glass has helped UTSA to a rebound margin of plus-10.3, which serves as the ninth-best in the country. The 'Runners are 16th in offensive rebounds per game, collecting 15.5 and 40.7 total rebounds per game are 29th. A 56.3 scoring defense is 33rd, and the squad's 4.1 blocks per game is 52nd across the NCAA.
Individually, redshirt senior Jordyn Jenkins tops The American and is 39th nationally, averaging 18.8 PPG and 413 total points, rank 62nd. She is 34th with 104 free throws made on the year, and she leads the conference with an 82.5% clip from the charity stripe.
The Pirates (13-11, 5-7 The American) enter carrying a slew of momentum and riding a three-game winning streak. They took down UAB, 61-56, and Tulsa, 73-64, last time out, and in the process, Amiya Joyner was named AAC Player of the Week and Devin Hagemann, AAC Freshman of the Week.
Joyner is second in the conference with nine double-doubles on the season, and the squad excels defensively with 19.6 turnovers forced per game leading the league. Joyner paces the squad with 14.2 PPG and in rebounds at 8.5 RPG and blocks swatting 23. Jayla Hearp joins her in averaging double-digit points at 10.4 PPG, and her 39 steals sit just behind Khia Miller, who's swiped 40. Additionally, Hagemann facilitates the offense, dishing out 59 assists across the campaign.
