IRVING, Texas – For the second time this indoor season, UTSA track and field has swept the women’s weekly American Athletic Conference awards, with the same student-athletes earning the awards. On Tuesday, officials from the conference office announced that Shadae Findley has been named AAC Track Athlete of the Week, while Ida Breigan has been named AAC Field Athlete of the Week for their performances over the weekend at the Charlie Thomas Invitational in College Station.
Winner of the AAC Track Athlete of the Week, Evergreen, Jamaica redshirt senior Findley made school history for the second time this season, raising the bar on her own school record and first-place standing in the AAC with a 53.29 in the women’s 400m at the Charlie Thomas Invitational, cutting .53 seconds off her previous best. Findley also ran the second leg on UTSA’s 4x400m relay that earned gold and set a new school record at 3:39.18 after lopping 1.51 seconds off the previous mark. The 4x400m clocking is the second-fastest in the AAC this season. This is Findley’s second AAC weekly award and her second honor at UTSA.
Winner of the AAC Field Athlete of the Week, Frederikstad, Norway sophomore Breigan was also a member of the record-setting 4x400m relay, but collected her weekly honor by delivering the gold medal at the Charlie Thomas Invitational on Saturday, tying her season-best leap of 6.50m (21-4) to reiterate her lead in the AAC standings and remain at 10th nationally. This is Breigan’s second award of the season and her fourth career AAC Indoor weekly award.
The Roadrunners will split ranks this week, with one party traveling to Houston for the Howie Ryan Invitational on Friday, Feb. 14, while another will head to Nashville for the two-day Indoor Music City Challenge at Vanderbilt, Feb. 14-15.
