The Roadrunners defeat St. Mary’s to improve to 6-0

SAN ANTONIO — The Roadrunners win their second home match and sixth match of the season against St. Mary’s (TX) on Sunday, Jan. 26 at the UTSA Tennis Center.

The Roadrunners earn their sixth win of the season in just as many matches for the second time in two years. UTSA remains undefeated against St. Mary’s (TX) since 2007 with three wins.

UTSA will play host to Abilene Christian on Saturday, Feb. 1, at 11 a.m. at the UTSA Tennis Center.

Match 6

A duo of Ekua Youri and Vittoria Baccino started the day right as they defeated Janel Ospanova and Stela Sifuentes 6-1. Natalia Castaneda Guerrero and Milica Milosavljevic gave the Roadrunners the first point of the match, winning 7-6 (7).

Youri continued her dominance giving the Roadrunners a 2-0 lead as she won her singles match 6-3, 6-1 at No. 1. Guerrero at No. 5 extended the Roadrunners’ lead to 3-0 as she defeated her opponent 7-5, 6-1.

Arina Babenko took down Janel Ospanova 6-4, 6-2 at No. 3 to put the Roadrunners up 4-0. St. Mary’s (TX) earned their first and only point of the match at No. 6.

Baccino defeated Selina Wu 6-4, 6-1 at No. 2 to make the score 5-1. To close out the match Aoka Nagasawa beat Paula Garrote at No. 4 6-4, 7-5.
