Jumpers lead UTSA effort at Ted Nelson Invitational

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Led by Christian Le Roux and Rachela Pace, the Roadrunner track and field teams picked up five medals, four in the jumps and one relay in closing out competition at the Ted Nelson Invitational on Saturday at the R.A. "Murray" Fasken '38 Indoor track facility.

Le Roux earned the gold in the men’s long jump, marking the second consecutive meet for the South African senior to claim the top spot in the event. Le Roux registered a measurement of 7.50m (24-7.25) in the win. Also in the men’s long jump, Gabriel Binion recorded a fourth-place jump of 7.26m (23-10).

A Fresno State transfer, Pace claimed the gold in the women’s triple jump with a 12.95m (42-6) mark to close out the field events for the day. Her performance marks the second-best measurement in UTSA program history. In addition, Oreolewa Adamson marked her second straight meet in the medal group, earning second place in the women’s long jump on a 6.12m (20-1) leap, while Mia Lien earned third on a 6.07m (19-11) measurement. Brina Likar also came in fourth in the long jump with a distance of 6.07m (19-9).

Closing out the day’s events, the 4x400-meter relay squad of Selma Ims, Shadae Findley, Nayanna Dubarry-Gay and Ida Breigan earned the silver medal with a combined time of 3:42.57.

Findley also came in sixth in the 400m with a 54.10 clocking. On the men’s side, Mike Roth came in at 47.67 for eighth in the quarter mile, ahead of AJ Breault in a 47.95 personal best for 10th. Victor Charo was ninth in the 800m with a 1:55.14 time. Edlin Laur was seventh in the high jump with a height of 1.67m (5-5.75). Ims finished 10th in the 60m hurdles preliminary on a time of 8.60 seconds. In the throws, Garrett Stokes notched a 10th-place finish with a 15.03m (49-3.75) in the first field event of the day. Opening up the day overall, Brooke Veltman finished eighth in the 3,000m with a time of 11:18.31.

Next on the schedule will be dates on familiar ground, returning to the Fasken Indoor on Feb. 7-8 for Texas A&M’s Charlie Thomas Invitational back in College Station.
