Roadrunners host first match of 2025 season

SAN ANTONIO — UTSA is set to host their first home matches of the 2025 schedule as they will take on Texas State on Saturday, Jan. 25 at 2 p.m. and then St. Mary’s (TX) on Sunday, Jan. 26 at 2 p.m. at the UTSA Tennis Center.

The Roadrunners are off to a hot start, as they are 4-0 to open the season. In three of the four matches, UTSA has beaten their opponents, Prairie View A&M and UTEP 4-0. They have only lost one point, which came against NM State, winning that match 6-1.

Arina Babenko has been stellar in singles, as she is 4-0 in the season. Vittoria Baccino has won three of her four singles matches, with one going unfinished. A tandem of Letizia Corsini and Baccino are 3-0 in doubles, with Valeria Sanchez and Ekua Youri are 2-0 in doubles play.

Since 2007, the Roadrunners hold an 11-7 advantage over Texas State after beating them 4-3 on Jan. 27, 2024, in San Marcos, Texas. UTSA has played St. Mary’s (TX) twice, winning both matches, in their last match on Jan. 18, 2024, the Roadrunners beat St. Mary’s 7-0 in San Antonio.

The Roadrunners will host Abilene Christian on Saturday, Feb. 1 at 11 a.m. at the UTSA Tennis Center.
