Q&A with UTSA Women's Tennis' Ekua Youri

Get to know UTSA women's tennis student-athlete Ekua Youri in this Q&A.

Q: Why did you choose UTSA? 

Ekua Youri: "I chose UTSA mainly because of how our coach [Ki Kroll] spoke about the environment, and it just felt like such an inspiring place to be in." 

Q: What do you like most about being a student-athlete at UTSA? 

Ekua Youri: "Being a student-athlete comes with a lot of upside, such a getting full support in juggling your academics with your sport, getting nutritious meals and being able to mingle and socialize with other fellow athletes who we're surrounded by." 

Q: How did you first get involved with playing tennis? 

Ekua Youri: "I got involved through my brother. He started tennis, then I picked it up and fell in love with the sport immediately." 

Q: What are you majoring in and what do you hope to do following your athletic career? 

Ekua Youri: "I'm majoring in psychology and I hope to pursue a career in sports psychology to help other athletes understand how essential the mind is while playing a sport." 

Q: What is an interesting fact about you that most people might not know? 

Ekua Youri: "I really enjoy watching F1." 

Q: Who has been the most influential person in your life and why? 

Ekua Youri: "I would say my mum. Despite going through numerous obstacles in her life like losing her father at a young age and growing up in adverse circumstances in Africa, she still managed to persevere and flourish and create an incredible life for she and her family."
