UTSA set to host NM State and UTEP this weekend

SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA women’s tennis team is set to host a pair of matches this weekend at the UTSA Tennis Courts, starting with UTEP on Saturday at 10 a.m. and concluding on Sunday against NM State at 11 a.m.

 

The Roadrunners hold a 13-6 record, after a 4-0 sweep over Sam Houston on March 27. UTSA has won its last three matches and undefeated at home with a 6-0 record. Freshman Ekua Youri and senior Aleksandra Zlatarova are tied for the team most singles wins with 10 so far. Zlatarova and Cassie McLay have teamed up to put together an impressive 10-1 doubles record. The team holds a combined 32-13 doubles record and a 54-32 singles record. 

 

UTEP holds a 4-12 overall record this season, following a 4-1 loss to Middle Tennessee on March 30. The Panthers hold a 14-46 singles record and a 4-17 doubles record. Veronika Lebisova, Carlotta Mencaglia and Hanna Telzynska lead the team with five singles wins each. Mencaglia and Telzynska have a team-lead 10 doubles victories. Since the 2009 season, the Roadrunners hold a 6-5 advantage over the Miners in the all-time series, after a 4-3 win last season on Jan. 27.

 

New Mexico State holds a 5-10 overall record this season, following a 4-0 win over Sam Houston on Thursday. The Aggies hold a 27-46 singles record and 21-15 doubles record. No. 1 singles player Anna Pinaieva leads the team with a 9-5 singles record. Valeriia Ivanovskaia and Natsuki Nishimura each have a team-best eight doubles record. Since 2012, the Roadrunners hold a 7-2 advantage over the Aggies in the all-time series, after a 4-2 win last season on Jan. 28.

 

The Roadrunners conclude the regular season at home against Lamar on April 10 at 12 p.m. Four student-athletes will be celebrated for Senior Day, including Eva Beyebach, Cassie McLay, Magda Tuells and Aleksandra Zlatarova.
