ARLINGTON, Texas – The UTSA women’s tennis team is set for another weekend on the road, heading to Arlington, Texas, to face UT Arlington at 11 a.m. on Friday and then to Stephenville, Texas, to face Tarleton at 12 p.m. on Saturday.
After picking up two wins in Denton last weekend, the Roadrunners have a 9-3 record through the first 12 games – the program’s best record through that span since the 2007 season. The team holds a 22-7 doubles record and a 38-18 singles record.
Ekua Youri leads the team with eight wins in singles action, while Vittoria Baccino trails that with seven wins. Both Fatima Gutierrez and Aleksandra Zlatarova have picked up six singles victories. The duo of Cassie McLay and Aleksandra Zlatarova have a 6-1 record in doubles.
UT Arlington holds a 9-4 record, after a 4-1 win over North Texas on Wednesday. Maria Manyoma-Velasquez leads the Mavs with a 10-1 singles record. Bruna Casasempere and Francisca Vergara have an 8-3 record playing at the No. 2 doubles court.
Tarleton holds an 8-1 record, following a 6-1 win over Prairie View A&M on March 1. Noelia Lorca leads the Texans with a 9-0 singles record, mostly at the fifth court. The duo of Maretha Burger and Martha Makantasi lead the team with an 8-1 doubles advantage at the top spot.
The Roadrunners head to the Sunshine State for a pair of matches next weekend, playing Florida Atlantic in Boca Raton, Fla., at 10 a.m. on March 15 and FIU in Miami at 10 a.m. on March 17.
