UTSA closes week hosting Kennesaw State

SAN ANTONIO – Looking to extend their home fortunes after sweeping both matches at UTSA Tennis Center last week, the UTSA men’s tennis team (6-7) returns to action on Friday at 1 p.m. in the first series meeting with Kennesaw State (5-2).

Following along with this week’s match

Last Time Out
Rebounding from a challenging week in Florida against a pair of ranked foes, UTSA brought the intensity to UTSA Tennis Center for the home opening weekend. UTSA earned a pair of sweeps over No. 60 Utah State (7-0) and then UT Arlington on Friday and Sunday, opening strong on the first two contests of a nine-match home stand.

Leading the records so far, junior Miguel Alonso is 7-1 this spring, securing court six. Largely working court four, junior Danijal Muminovic is 6-4 so far. Leading the pack in doubles action, Jackson Ross and Garrett Skelly are 6-2, largely locking down court No. 2.

On the Slate this Week
The Kennesaw State Owls enter the weekend at 5-2 under sixth-year Director of Tennis Matt Emery. Last season, KSU went 14-8 before falling in the Atlantic Sun semifinal. The Owls have a habit of grinding out matches this season and are on a three-match win streak, defeating Samford (4-3), UNC Asheville (4-2) and Jacksonville State (4-3) after dropping a 3-4 decision on Feb. 7 at Georgia Southern. KSU has seen 10 different players take the court in singles, led by Sam Baldwin with a 4-1 record on the lower three courts. In doubles action, the tandems of Joel Gibson/Anthony Weingarten and Mikolaj Lis/Austin Miramontes are both 3-0 so far.

Series against the Owls
This Friday’s matchup will mark the first meeting between these programs.
