SAN ANTONIO — The UTSA women’s tennis team swept a doubleheader from Prairie View A&M, 5-2 and 4-0, on Saturday at the UTSA Tennis Center.
In their first home match since Feb. 7, the Roadrunners cruised to a pair of victories to run their season record to 12-6 while also remaining perfect at home in five contests. The Panthers fell to 4-16 on the year.
The Roadrunners will remain at home to host Sam Houston at 1 p.m. next Wednesday, March 27, in a match that was originally scheduled for Feb. 4 but canceled due to windy weather. Admission is free to all UTSA home tennis matches.
Match 1
The Roadrunners wasted little time taking a 1-0 lead with a pair of quick decisions in doubles competition. Cassie McLay and Aleksandra Zlatarova teamed up for a 6-1 victory over Victoria Castillo and Ainara Vegal Rodriguez at No. 1. Shortly after, Fatima Gutierrez and Magda Tuells scored a similar 6-1 triumph over Francesca Duca and Andrea Pascual Blanca on the second court to clinch the doubles point.
In singles, Tuells shut out Amaya Bobadilla, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 5 to give UTSA a 2-0 advantage. Zlatarova then made it 3-0 with a 6-2, 6-1 win on court two before Eva Beyebach secured the win for the Roadrunners with a 6-0, 6-0 blanking of Joanne Fernandes at No. 6.
Gutierrez made it 5-0 in favor of the home side with a straight-set decision at the top of the lineup, posting a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Duca.
The Panthers picked up two points with wins at No. 3 by Rodriguez over McLay, 1-6, 6-4, 1-0 (9) and by Blanca at the fourth position over Milica Milosavljevic, 6-2, 6-1.

Much like the morning match, UTSA took a 1-0 lead by grabbing the doubles point to start the afternoon duel.
McLay and Zlatarova combined for a quick 6-1 victory over Duca and Blanca on the top court. That decision ran their doubles record to 9-1 on the season.
The other two matchups were tight, but Beyebach and Milosavljevic outlasted Amaya Bobadilla and Garcia at No. 3, while Gutierrez and Tuells were up, 6-5, on Castillo and Rodriguez when the point was clinched.
Gutierrez made quick work of Castillo at the top of the singles lineup, posting a 6-2, 6-1 sweep to make it 2-0 in favor of the Roadrunners. Gutierrez now owns a 9-5 season mark with her two singles victories today.
Milosavljevic evened her singles record to 2-2 with a 6-0, 6-2 rout at No. 6 to push UTSA to the brink of securing the match.
Zlatarova then sealed the deal with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Duca on court two to run her season ledger to 9-6.
