SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA women's basketball team will open American Athletic Conference play on Sunday with a 1 p.m. CT road bout against Charlotte inside Halton Arena.
The game will be broadcast live on ESPN+ with Bobby Rosinski (play-by-play) and Kam Roach (analyst) on the call. Neal Raphael will deliver all the action on the radio in the greater San Antonio area on The Bull 93.3 FM and worldwide on the iHeartRadio app.
The Roadrunners (9-2, 0-0 The American) will look to continue a historic season, with their 9-2 mark representing the program's best-ever entering conference play. Before the holiday break, UTSA had a busy week, falling to #RV/RV Stanford on the road, 62-57, ahead of a 76-61 win over UT Arlington and a 70-54 Battle of I-35 victory against Texas State.
Junior Sidney Love was dominant for the 'Runners, earning a weekly honorable mention by The American thanks to 16.7 PPG with 10 rebounds, four assists and four steals.
UTSA enters league play at 52nd in the most recent NET, and a plus-12.2 rebound margin is 11th in the NCAA. They top the AAC and are 32nd nationally with a 55.2 scoring defense and a plus-13.5 scoring margin also paces the conference.
Individually, graduate student Nina De Leon Negron averages 5.4 assists per game, a figure that is the 30th-most across the country. She, along with Love, sits inside the top five on The American's assist/turnover ratio leader board, with De Leon Negron second at 2.16 and Love fourth at 1.79. Additionally, redshirt senior Jordyn Jenkins leads the league in points (209), points per game (19.0), and free throws (50).
The 49ers (5-6, 0-0 The American) fell to Davidson 82-55 in the Battle for 704 Cup last time out and will look to improve to .500 on the season. Jayla Kelly has played a major role defensively for CLT, with 19 blocks topping the conference. Hayleigh Breland is the squad leader in points averaging 11.9 PPG, and Keanna Rembert in rebounds with 6.0 RPG.
