SAN ANTONIO – Opening the first year for the UTSA men’s tennis team under the guidance of Sasha Gozun, the Roadrunners are preparing for a 17-match schedule with a mid-season tournament, announced on Monday, December 23. The Roadrunners will host seven matches in the confines of the UTSA Tennis Center, taking on seven opponents in true road matches and three more in neutral-site competition.
The Roadrunners open with a big one, heading to College Station to take on Texas A&M on January 19. The Aggies finished 16th in the final Intercollegiate Tennis Association poll last season after a 20-11 season ended in the third round of the NCAA Tournament. The Roadrunners open up at home on Jan. 25, hosting UT Rio Grande Valley after defeating the Vaqueros in Edinburg last season, 7-0.
Though the Roadrunners slipped out of the rankings at the end of the year, they’re gearing up for a competitive and challenging 2025 season, with eight teams ranked in the final ITA rankings appearing on the slate ahead.
At home, UTSA will move on to play Texas Tech (Feb. 14), No. 45 Florida Atlantic (Feb. 21), Wichita State (Feb. 23), Abilene Christian (March 29), Prairie View A&M (April 11) and closing up the regular season against Grand Canyon on April 13.
UTSA will also hit the road to meet UT Arlington (Feb. 2), No. 50 Oregon (Feb. 9), UIW (March 7), No. 43 SMU (March 12), No. 72 New Mexico (March 23) and No. 47 Rice (April 6).
While traveling to Oregon, UTSA will also take on No. 44 Denver (Feb. 8) on the trip, Northern Arizona (March 22) at New Mexico and No. 46 Charlotte (April 5) at Rice.
From Feb. 28 to March 1, UTSA will travel to Tempe, Arizona to take on the Diablos College Invitational. The annual tournament typically hosts some of the nation’s top teams. However, the matchups and field are not fully finalized.
The 2025 postseason begins with the American Athletic Conference Championships in Memphis and set for April 16-19 at the Leftwich Tennis Center. Up through the Round of 16, the NCAA Championships will be held at campus Regional sites, with the opening rounds running May 2-4, followed by the NCAA Super Regionals, May 9-10, at campus sites. The final eight head to Baylor’s Hurd Tennis Center in Waco, May 15-18.
