SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA women's basketball team will host UT Arlington on Monday in what represents the season's final home nonconference contest. Tipoff is set for 4 p.m. after the conclusion of the men's bout with Southwestern Adventist in the Convocation Center.
The game will serve as UTSA's annual Hoops for the Holidays contest, with festivities including a Teddy Bear Toss, a holiday T-shirt sale, and a "Rowdy Claus" photo opportunity. More info on the in-game activations can be found here.
The game will be broadcast live on ESPN+ with Karl Schoening (play-by-play), Carlie Heineman (analyst) and Taylor Guajardo (reporter) on the call. Neal Raphael will deliver all the action on the radio in the greater San Antonio area on The Bull 93.3 FM and worldwide on the iHeartRadio app.
The Roadrunners (7-2, 0-0 The American) are coming off a narrow 62-57 defeat at the hands of a Stanford squad that was receiving votes nationally.
UTSA clawed back within two in the final minute after trailing by as much as 15 in the fourth, outscoring the Cardinal 22-15 across the period. The 'Runners were led by graduate student Nina De Leon Negron, who recorded her 1,000th career point en route to a 12-point, 10-rebound double-double. Redshirt senior Jordyn Jenkins and junior Sidney Love tied for a game-high 14 points, while sophomore Idara Udo collected six boards and two blocks.
Despite the loss, UTSA checks in at 51 in the latest NCAA NET rankings, and they remain 19th nationally with a plus-11 rebound margin. 15.3 offensive rebounds per game is 26th in the league, and a 54.7 scoring defense is 34th.
Individually, Jenkins ranks 29th across the country with 19.8 PPG, and 47 free throws made are 33rd. The 'Runners boast prolific passers in Love and De Leon Negron, with Love slotted second in the American Athletic Conference with a 2.17 assist/turnover ratio and De Leon Negron third at 2.11.
The Lady Mavs (4-5, 0-0 WAC) will aim for a .500 record as well as a third consecutive win on Thursday after taking down Houston, 61-57, and FIU, 72-56 in their last two.
Nobody in the WAC gets to the charity stripe as much as UTA, with 21.9 free throw attempts sitting 17th in the NCAA.
Avery Brittingham has played a major role for the Lady Mavs, with four double-doubles on the season, and she's one of 11 players to log a triple-double this year. Koi Love provides the bulk of the scoring with 16.2 PPG, and Brittingham is not far behind at 13.0. Brittingham tops the squad with 9.1 RPG, 4.0 APG and 1.3 BPG.
