'Runners to face Stanford on road

The Roadrunners and Cardinal will meet on Monday at 2 p.m. CT

SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA women's basketball program is set to match up with a Stanford squad that's receiving votes nationally on Monday, with a 2 p.m. tipoff at Maples Pavilion in Stanford, California.

The game will be broadcast live on ACC Network Extra with Troy Clardy (play-by-play) and Joaquin Wallace (analyst) on the call. Neal Raphael will deliver all the action on the radio in the greater San Antonio area on The Bull 93.3 FM and worldwide on the iHeartRadio app.

The Roadrunners (7-1, 0-0 The American) are hot off a 79-36 victory over Sam Houston that cemented a 7-1 record and the second-best start in school history. The win also represented the 'Runners first seven-game winning streak since 2013-14, was the largest margin of victory against an NCAA Division I opponent since an 86-33 thrashing of Nicholls on Jan. 14, 2008, and, after taking down Towson 71-40 in their previous matchup, UTSA has recorded consecutive 30-plus point victories over DI foes for the first time since December of 1996 when they beat Prairie View A&M 67-31 before topping Texas Southern 91-30.

UTSA led wire-to-wire, shooting 48% from the field to the Bearkats 22%, with a whopping 60 points in the paint to SHSU's eight. Redshirt senior Jordyn Jenkins earned her fourth double-double of the season, tallying 22 points at a 50% clip to go with 10 rebounds and three steals. Sophomore Idara Udo also performed well, scoring 15 with eight boards, while junior Sidney Love logged 10 points with five rebounds. Graduate student Nina De Leon Negron racked up eight assists, with junior Cheyenne Rowe working eight points and six rebounds.

The 'Runners have climbed as high as 49th in the NCAA NET Rankings, their highest since the system was implemented in 2018. UTSA checks in at 17th nationally with a plus-11.5 rebound margin, and boast the 23rd strongest scoring defense in the country, with opponents managing 53.8 per game. Additionally, the Roadrunners collect 15.5 offensive rebounds per game for 25th in the NCAA.

Individually, Jenkins leads The American in several statistics, including points per game with 20.5 PPG sitting 17th across the country. She also tops the league in total points (164), free throws made (43) and field goals (58). De Leon Negron, meanwhile, is 21st in the NCAA with a 2.92 assist/turnover ratio, with Love not far behind at 2.29. De Leon Negron averages the second most assists in the league with 5.0 each time out, and Love boasts 4.9 APG.

The No. RV/RV Cardinal (7-3, 0-1 ACC) has had a strong start to the season, with just a trio of losses coming against quality programs in Indiana, No. 5 LSU, and most recently, California. Stanford opened their Atlantic Coast Conference ledger on Friday, falling to the Golden Bears 83-63.

Nobody in the NCAA shoots the triple as well as the Cardinal, with a 42.8% mark from beyond-the-arc pacing the nation. 9.5 treys per game are 19th, and a 48.6% clip from the field is 17th.

Stanford is 37th in the NET and has three players averaging double-digit scoring figures. Nunu Agara tops the team with 18.2 PPG and 7.1 RPG. Elena Bosgana tallies 12.2 PPG and Brooke Demetre 12.4 PPG. Bosgana has played a major role in the team's onslaught from beyond the arc, with 22 triples coming at a 45.8% rate. Defensively, she's swiped 20 steals on the season, and Agara boasts 10 blocks to lead the Cardinal.
