SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA women's basketball program is set to host UTRGV in the home opener on Saturday, with a 2 p.m. tipoff in the Convocation Center. The game will be a White Out contest, and while supplies last, fans can receive a limited-edition T-shirt and poster.
The game will be broadcast live on ESPN+ with Jordy Fee-Platt (play-by-play), Carlie Heineman (analyst) and Taylor Guajardo (reporter) on the call. Neal Raphael will deliver all the action on the radio in the greater San Antonio area on The Bull 93.3 FM and worldwide on the iHeartRadio app.
The Roadrunners (0-1, 0-0 The American) will look to bounce back after falling to Texas A & M on the road, 55-51. Redshirt senior Jordyn Jenkins starred in the defeat, working a double-double to the tune of 18 points and 11 rebounds. Junior Sidney Love scored 10 and tallied five boards, while sophomore Idara Udo pulled down seven rebounds.
The Vaqueros (1-0, 0-0 Southland) are coming off the program's first high-major victory since 2003, as they took down Houston, 70-68, inside the Fertitta Center. Charlotte O'Keefe banged home a triple with three seconds remaining to put UTRGV in front and was the team's second-leading scorer, charting 18 points. Kade Hackerott poured in 20, dished out five assists and collected six boards. Additionally, Sophia Zufelt logged nine points over 15 minutes in what represented her collegiate debut.
UTRGV's victory in the opener sets the tone for a season of improvement after going 6-23 a season ago and 5-15 in the Western Athletic Conference. Jayda Holiman was a bright spot last campaign, providing 9.1 PPG that landed her on the WAC All-Freshman team.
