Tulane claimed a 25-19, 25-18, 25-19 victory over UTSA

NEW ORLEANS – The UTSA Volleyball team suffered a 25-19, 25-18, 25-19 defeat at the hands of Tulane in American Athletic Conference play on Friday in the Devlin Fieldhouse.

The Roadrunners (8-16, 2-9 The American) fell to the Green Wave (14-9, 6-5 The American), as redshirt junior Mia Soerensen paced the squad with nine kills, while sophomore Peyton Turner tallied 19 digs. Additionally, classmate Annika Sokol worked 13 assists to lead the team.

Tulane snapped a 10-10 tie with three straight points in the first, putting them in the driver’s seat. UTSA battled back to within one, but the Green Wave persevered, eventually taking the frame 25-19.

The ‘Runners got off on the front foot in the second, growing a 9-3 advantage in a stretch that saw kills by junior Caroline Kreuger, redshirt senior Alicia Coppedge and Soerensen. A four-point swing kept the Green Wave in the fight, and a later six-score rally handed them a lead that they didn’t relinquish en route to a 25-18 win.

A back-and-forth start to the third followed as a termination for Krueger, handed UTSA a 14-13 lead. Tulane responded with four consecutive points for a 17-14 edge, ahead of a 25-19 victory that cemented the match.

UTSA will be back in action on Sunday as they host Rice for Family Day at 1 p.m. in the Convocation Center.
