UTSA to host Texas A&M-Corpus Christi for Rising Stars Night

The 'Runners and Islanders will meet on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.

SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA women's basketball program is back in the Convocation Center on Wednesday as they host Texas A&M-Corpus Christi for Rising Stars Night at 6:30 p.m.

The game will be broadcast live on ESPN+ with Karl Schoening (play-by-play), Carlie Heineman (analyst) and Taylor Guajardo (reporter) on the call. Neal Raphael will deliver all the action on the radio in the greater San Antonio area on The Bull 93.3 FM and worldwide on the iHeartRadio app.

The Roadrunners (3-1, 0-0 The American) picked up a pair of road wins a week ago, first besting New Mexico State, 75-61, ahead of a 78-73 win over UTEP.

Redshirt junior Jordyn Jenkins was dominant, posting 28.5 PPG at a 70.4% clip and 11.5 RPG en route to American Athletic Conference Player of the Week and Ann Meyers Drysdale National Players of the Week honors. She went 9-for-14 from the field and 8-for-8 from the charity stripe for 27 points in the win over the Aggies, ahead of a 30-point, 10-for-13 day against the Miners that featured a 10-for-12 mark from the free-throw line and 12 rebounds in just 25 minutes.

Still early in the year, UTSA tops The American in field goal percentage at 46.0%, free throw percentage at 76.3% and is second with a 38.1% mark from beyond the arc. Individually, Jenkins is tied for the national lead with three double-doubles while ranking fifth in free throws sinking 31. She is 13th in points per game, charting 23.5 with 94 total points, ranking 16th. Additionally, Jenkins is third in the AAC with 38 rebounds, and junior Sidney Love tops the conference, dishing out 5.5 assists per game.

The Islanders (3-1, 0-0 Southland) have had a hot start to the year with victories over Texas A&M, Texas State and Sul Ross State. TAMUCC's fallen only once in the 2024-25 campaign, with a 65-42 defeat at the hands of No. 17 Baylor last time out.

With a stout defense, the Islanders are 31st in the country and atop the Southland in blocks per game, boasting 5.5 and in defensive rebounds with 31.0 per game. Nabaweeyah McGill has played a major role with 11 blocks, leading the league and ranking inside the top 20 on the NCAA leader board, while Paige Allen leads the team in rebounds with 11.3 PPG, 10.3 RPG, and 3.0 SPG. Mireia Aguado matches Allen with 45 points scored on the season and paces the squad with 15 assists.

The teams went down to the wire a season ago, as UTSA erased a 15-point deficit to claim a 66-59 overtime thriller at the Dugan Wellness Center in Corpus Christi. With a win this time around, UTSA would start the season 4-1 against NCAA Division I opponents for the first time since the 2007-08 season when the squad went 23-10 and reached the NCAA Tournament.
