McCown makes Manning Award Stars of the Week, Davey O’Brien Great 8 lists

SAN ANTONIO — UTSA redshirt sophomore Owen McCown has landed on a pair of national weekly honor lists following his performance in the 48-27 victory against North Texas last Friday night at the Alamodome.

McCown was chosen as one of eight quarterbacks for the Manning Award Stars of the Week for the second time this season He also landed on that list and eventually was named the Manning Award QB of the Week after throwing for 340 yards and three touchdowns in the season-opening win over Kennesaw State.

Fans can VOTE HERE or follow the Manning Award on social media (@ManningAward) to vote for what they think was the best performance from this past weekend. After voting closes at 9 a.m. Wednesday, the top vote-getter will be announced as the Manning Award Quarterback of the Week. 

For the second time this month, McCown earned a spot on the Davey O’Brien Award’s Great 8 after also making the list following the win against Memphis two weeks ago. He joins Carson Beck (Georgia), Devon Dampier (New Mexico), Ashton Daniels (Stanford), Cade Klubnik (Clemson), Sam Leavitt (Arizona State), LaNorris Sellers (South Carolina) and Payton Thorne (Auburn) in this week’s group.

The Davey O’Brien National QB of the Week will be announced Tuesday.

McCown accounted for 467 yards to help UTSA break the school record for total offense in the 21-point decision over North Texas. The Rusk, Texas, native completed 29 of 43 passes for 379 yards and two touchdowns and also rushed for a career-high 88 yards on 10 carries, as the Roadrunners racked up 681 total yards to eclipse the previous school standard of 643.

Earlier on Monday, McCown was selected as one of five players for the league’s honorable mention player of the week list for the fifth time this season.

The Roadrunners will close out the regular season home slate with Senior Day against Temple (3-7, 2-4 AAC) on Friday, Nov 22. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. at the Alamodome and the game will be televised nationally on ESPN2.
