Bailey was named Defensive Player of the Week and Sokol Setter of the Week

IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference released its batch of weekly honors on Monday, with sophomore Kai Bailey earning Defensive Player of the Week and classmate Annika Sokol Setter of the Week. Additionally, junior Mia Soerensen was named to the honorable mention.

Bailey was sensational in road victories over Tulsa and Wichita State, with 13 blocks to go with 21 kills at a .386 clip.  Sokol, meanwhile, set the table for the Roadrunner offense, tallying 60 assists and 24 digs. Soerensen paced the offense, posting 11 kills against the Golden Hurricane, before charting 21 in the match with the Shockers. In total, she boasted 38.0 kills at a .273 clip with 11 blocks for 38.0 total points.

This marks the first weekly award in Bailey and Sokol's collegiate tenure and the first time the AAC recognized UTSA since Ally Tribe was chosen as Freshman of the Week on Sept. 16, 2024. The 'Runners last defensive honor came in the form of Miranda Putnicki in 2023, and UTSA's last setter honoree was Courtney Walters back in 2019.
