SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA women's basketball program will hit the road, as they'll meet New Mexico State in the Pan America Center on Thursday, with tipoff set for 6 p.m. CT inside the Pan America Center.
The game will be broadcast live on ESPN+ with Adam Young (play-by-play) and Patrick Knapp (analyst) on the call. Neal Raphael will deliver all the action on the radio in the greater San Antonio area on The Bull 93.3 FM and worldwide on the iHeartRadio app.
The Roadrunners (1-1, 0-0 The American) split their inaugural week of competition, first falling on the road to Texas A&M, 55-51, before besting UTRGV 74-69 in the home opener.
Junior Sidney Love had a stellar week, first scoring 10 points with five rebounds and two steals against the Aggies. She followed that performance up with a dominant 21-point, 11-assist contest with the Vaqueros, which also saw her snag five boards and swipe five steals. Her performance against UTRGV was the first time a squad member tallied 20-plus points and 10-plus rebounds in a single game since UTSA Athletics Hall of Famer Monica Gibbs charted 20 points and 10 assists in a matchup with Lamar on Feb. 28, 2009. Additionally, no 'Runner has recorded double-digit assist figures since Karrington Donald on Jan. 2, 2021, against Rice. Across the week, she averaged 15.5 PPG at a 47.8% clip, to go with 6.0 APG, 5.0 RPG and seven steals.
Also performing well, redshirt senior Jordyn Jenkins averaged 18.5 PPG with 7.5 RPG and three blocks. Freshman Damara Allen was solid in her first week as a collegiate athlete, earning her first career start and charting 7.0 PPG and 3.5 RPG with three assists, two steals and a block.
The Aggies (2-0, 0-0 CUSA) picked up a 57-49 victory over UC Irvine, ahead of an 85-63 win against Utah Tech to kick-start their campaign.
Molly Kaiser and Fanta Gassama were dominant for the squad, as Kaiser averaged 25.0 PPG with 5.5 RPG, while Gassama scored 18.0 PPG and collected a whopping 15.0 RPG. Defensively, Gassama has swiped six steals and Kaiser five.
Kaiser was named Conference USA Player of the Week, and she was also selected for the All-CUSA Preseason Team. Across last season, Kaiser led the team in games started (31), games played (31), minutes per game (34.2), points (463), points per game (14.9), field goals made (165), field goals attempted (420), free throws made (107), free throws attempted and free-throw percentage (86.3) en route to a spot on the All-CUSA First Team. Additionally, after a 13-18 campaign in 2023-24, the Aggies were picked sixth in the CUSA Coaches Preseason Poll.
