HOUSTON— UTSA women’s tennis concluded its time at the Rice Invitational on Sunday, Nov. 10, at the George R. Brown Tennis Center. The Roadrunners won a total of four doubles matches and six singles matches.
Letizia Corsini opened her singles matches against Texas Techs, Arina Oreshchenkova winning 6-4 and 6-1, moving her on to the semifinals of the third flight. Corsini continued to win, topping Maria de la Paz Alberto out of Iowa State by scores of 6-2, 2-6, and 7-6. With the win, Corsini made it to the finals of flight three, falling to Nithesa Selvaraj from Rice.
Vittoria Baccino won her first match against Iva Sepa out of Houston by scores of 7-6 and 6-4. She then fell to Kenna Erickson from LSU in the semifinals of the second flight 6-3 and 6-2.
Valeria Sanchez also managed to make it to the finals of her flight, beating Anushka Ashar (6-3, 6-4) out of Rice. She then went on to beat Gabriela Cortes out of Houston 6-2, 5-7 and 7-6 in the semifinals. Sanchez then fell in the finals to Alessia Tagliente out of Mississippi State.
In doubles, Corsini and Baccino won one match against Iowa State’s squad made up of Alberto and Cristina Ramos Sierra. Sanches and Aoka Nagasawa competed in the Women’s open doubles winning all three of their matches 6-1, 6-0 and 6-0.
UTSA will head back to Waco, Texas, after previously competing in the H-E-B Invitational, this time to compete in the NCAA Individual Championships starting Nov. 19-Nov. 24.
