WICHITA, Kan. — After the meet was moved up one day for impending weather, the UTSA men’s and women’s cross country teams went to work in Wichita, Kansas, on Friday afternoon, competing in the American Athletic Conference at L.W. Clapp Park. The men’s team finished 10th in the field, led by Pearland, Texas senior AJ Tyler, while the women were 12th with Benoni, South Africa senior Chante Dixon.
The meet just after 4 p.m. with the women’s 6k, as Dixon topped the UTSA women with her first lead scoring finish of the year, coming in 68th in 23:20.9. Next in line for UTSA was sophomore Jadelyn Malesich at 83rd (24:11.0), edging out 84th-place freshman Emma Wallace (24:13.1). Rounding out the Roadrunners’ pack were Jadyn Gonzales (86th, 24:18.7), Itzel Rojo (94th, 25:14.8) and Sidney Bravo (97th, 26:07.5). The women finished 12th as a team.
In the men’s 8k that followed, Tyler came in 26th lead all Roadrunners, notching a time of 25:09.5. Next up for UTSA, junior O.J. Ruiz was 63rd in 26:27.8, ahead of senior Idol Ramon in 66th at 26:30.0. Wrapping up the UTSA squad were Victor Charo (80th, 27:09.1), Diego Ramirez (92nd, 28:32.0), Cortlin Salge (93rd, 29:38.7) and Dominick Landin (94th, 30:22.1).
Hosted by Wichita State, the Roadrunners will run against conference opponents in UAB, Charlotte, East Carolina, Florida Atlantic, Memphis, North Texas, Rice, South Florida, Temple, Tulane and Tulsa. The Roadrunner men were 10th as a team.
Coming up on Nov. 15, the Roadrunners will return to College Station, site of the Arturo Barrios Invitational last month, taking on the NCAA Regional Championships.
