SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA Volleyball team suffered a 25-18, 25-23, 25-22 loss at the hands of Tulane on Wednesday in American Athletic Conference action in the Convocation Center.
The Roadrunners (6-12, 0-5 The American) fell to the Green Wave (10-7, 1-2 The American), with sophomore Kai Bailey leading the team with 11 kills at a .667 clip. Not far behind, junior Mia Soerensen logged nine terminations and classmate Caroline Krueger eight. Sophomore Annika Sokol worked a double-double with 11 digs and 17 assists, while second-year 'Runner Peyton Turner scooped 15 of the opposition's attacks. Additionally, freshman Morgen Durgens recorded 15 assists.
UTSA picked up a slim 15-13 lead in the first frame, following a 4-0 stretch that saw terminations for Durgens, Krueger, and Soerensen. Tulane responded with six of their own to go up 19-15, ahead of a 25-18 victory for the Green Wave.
The 'Runners strung together multiple rallies in the second, with a Soerensen kill affording the squad a 15-8 lead. The Green Wave, however, didn't go quietly, clawing their way back into the set for a 22-22 tie. After a service error, they scored the following two points and claimed a 25-23 victory.
Tulane scored four straight in the third, building a 10-6 advantage that forced a Roadrunner timeout. They kept UTSA at arms-length for the remainder of the stanza, using a 25-22 victory to polish off the match.
UTSA will be back in action on Sunday as they battle North Texas at 1 p.m. in Denton, Texas.
