HOUSTON – UTSA men’s tennis senior Danijal Muminovic’s hunt for the first UTSA American Athletic Conference championship title ended on Sunday with a loss in the singles final at the AAC Individual Championships with a 2-0 loss.
After pulling ahead of Tulsa’s Alex Okonkwo on an early break serve, Muminovic (Senior/Tulza, Bosnia) was downed in a 6-2, 6-0 sweep, receiving the AAC Runner-up trophy after a phenomenal weekend of action that included downing the No. 1, No. 8 and No. 5 seeds en route to making an appearance in the inaugural conference final – coming into the tournament unseeded.
“I am extremely proud of Dani and his performance this tournament,” head coach Sasha Gozun said. “He is trusting our coaching, he’s trusting the way his game needs to be played and had some really good results from working within our process. I’m sure this will not be the last time we’ll see Dani succeed at this type of level.”
Next on the schedule for the Roadrunners is a trip to Dallas for the Ralston/Neufeld Coaches Challenge at SMU’s Styslinger/Altec Tennis Complex, running Nov. 1-3.
