Roadrunners’ AAC run ends in singles quarterfinals

HOUSTON – After a strong start to the AAC Championships, winning two matches on the first day and upsetting both the five-seed and one-seed Ekua Youri and Letizia Corsini fell in Friday’s quarterfinals at the George R. Brown Tennis Center.

Sophomore Youri out of Gaborone, Botswana, faced off against Sara Suchankova out of Charlotte. Youri fell to Suchanokova 6-1, 6-2 in the quarterfinals ending a fantastic run at the first fall American Athletic Conference Individual Championships, which saw her defeat the No. 1 overall seed in Thursday’s action.

Corsini, a junior from Civitanova Marche, Italy, took on Rice’s Darya Schwartzman in the quarterfinals. Although Corsini took an early lead, beating Schwartzman in the first match 6-3, the next two games went to Schwartzman, 7-5, 6-2.

While remaining Roadrunners complete competition in Huntsville at the Bearkat Invitation, the next UTSA full-squad competition is a return to Houston on November 7 to play in the Rice Invitational.
