SAN ANTONIO — UTSA Women’s Tennis will hit the road for a pair of competitions inside the state this week, traveling to Houston for the American Athletic Conference Individual Championships at Rice and the Sam Houston’s Bearkat Invitational in Huntsville. The AAC’s will start on Oct. 24 and conclude on Sunday, Oct. 27, while Bearkat will run Oct. 25-27.
AAC Individual Championships
Junior Letizia Corsini and sophomore Ekua Youri will compete in the league’s championship event as individuals and as a doubles pair at the George R. Brown Tennis Center. In past years, singles and doubles championships were held at conference team championships with the NCAA Championships in the spring. For the first year, the NCAA has moved these individual championships to the fall. In the singles bracket, both Corsini and Youri will start at 10 a.m. in Houston, Texas.
Corsini opens the tournament on Thursday against Charlotte’s Lucia Aranda. With a win, she will move on to the Round of 16 to face off against the five-seed Tulsa’s Lily Hutchings at 2 p.m.
Also getting under way on Thursday, Youri will be competing on the opposite side of the bracket against Wichita State’s Kristina Kudryavtseva. With a win, Youri will face the one seed, Victoria Gomez O'Hayon out of Florida Atlantic in the round of 16 at 2 p.m.
Following the first two rounds of competition, the quarterfinals begin on Oct. 25 and both the semifinals and championship are scheduled for Oct. 26.
In the doubles bracket, Youri and Corsini will play South Florida’s doubles team, Melisa Senli and Sienna Leeson, as the first outing of Thursday’s action at 9 a.m. With a win, UTSA will move on to play the three-seed Tulsa on Oct. 25. Much like singles, doubles semifinals and championship are set for Oct. 26 and 27, respectively.
