IRVING, Texas – For the second time this season, Edmond, Oklahoma rookie forward Addy Johnson has been selected as the American Athletic Conference Freshman of the Week, for her efforts on Sunday in the big win over Temple.
Receiving her previous honor on Sept. 9, Johnson grew her lead as the Roadrunners’ top goal-scorer with her fourth of the year, using her body to score UTSA’s third goal in the 73rd minute of Sunday’s victory over the visiting Temple Owls. She scored on her only shot for the day and raised her shooting accuracy to .714 on the season with four goals and five shots on target through seven attempts. In addition, her throw-in for an assist directly set the stage for Olivia Alvarez' 61st minute score - giving the freshman three points on the week.
Johnson’s honor gives her two of UTSA’s five top weekly conference honors on the season with two Freshman awards, joining Olivia Alvarez (Offensive Player of the Week), Sasjah Dade (Defensive Player of the Week) and Tyler Coker (Offensive Player of the Week).
Taking on the first of two remaining regular-season contests, the Roadrunners head to Tampa to face South Florida on Thursday, Oct. 24. The USF Bulls are leading the league at 10-2-3 (5-1-2 AAC) after winning at North Texas on Sunday, 2-1. USF escaped Park West with a 1-0 in the last meeting between these teams.
