‘Runners fall to Golden Hurricane on Sunday

UTSA fell to Tulsa, 25-18, 25-11, 25-19

SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA Volleyball team suffered a 25-18, 25-11, 25-19 setback at the hands of Tulsa in American Athletic Conference play on Sunday in the Convocation Center.

The Roadrunners (7-114, 1-7 The American) fell to the Golden Hurricane (13-7, 5-3 The American), as freshman Morgen Durgens led the contest in assists with 13, while sophomore Annika Sokol managed 12. Junior Mia Soerensen provided the bulk of the offense with nine kills, while classmate Caroline Krueger dug 15 of the opposition’s attacks and sophomore Peyton Turner 13.

The ‘Runners found themselves trailing 15-9 midway through the first frame, prompting a three-point swing that saw Soerensen and Bailey combine for a block as well as terminations for Tribe and Bailey. Tulsa, however, responded, riding multiple spurts towards a 20-13 advantage. The Golden Hurricane then polished off the set, working a 25-18 victory.

Similarly. Tulsa jumped out to an 8-2 advantage in the second stanza, and never looked back cruising to a 25-11 win.

The Golden Hurricane broke a 9-9 tie in the third with a 7-2 run, that afforded the squad a 16-11 lead. UTSA clawed their way back as a Wilbricht kill and a Lechler ace pulled them within one. Tulsa, persevered surging towards a 25-19 victory that secured the match.  

UTSA will be back in action on Friday as they visit Temple in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania with a 5 p.m. CT start time in McGongle Hall.
