UTSA in Magnolia State for Fallen Oak Collegiate Invitational

SAN ANTONIO — The UTSA men’s golf team will travel to Mississippi to play in the Fallen Oak Collegiate Invitational, which will be hosted by Mississippi State, Ole Miss and Southern Miss on Saturday-Monday, Oct. 19-21, at Beau Rivage’s Private Course, Fallen Oak (par 72/7,487 yards).

The Roadrunners will field a lineup of Logan Vargas, Logan Zurn, Brayden Bare, Kaelen Dulany and Walker Franklin, while David Martinez is set to compete as an individual.

UTSA will face No. 29 Georgia, No. 15 Illinois, Iowa, No. 36 Kansas, No. 5 LSU, No. 22 Mississippi State, No. 2 Ole Miss, No. 48 Purdue, No. 23 South Carolina, Southern Miss, Wisconsin and No. 32 UNLV. The field will play 18 holes with each day.

This will mark the third of four fall tournaments for the Roadrunners, who last were in action on Oct. 6-8 at the Trinity Forest Invitational in Dallas. Vargas tied for 43rd at 2-over-par 218 (69-78-71) to help lead UTSA to a 15th-place finish.

Dulany paces UTSA with a 73.67 stroke average through six rounds in his debut season with the Roadrunners. His top finish was a tie for 56th at the Trinity Forest Invitational.

Vargas is close behind with a 73.83 scoring mark and the junior transfer from Lubbock also owns UTSA’s low round of the fall with a 3-under 69 in the opening round of the Trinity Forest Invitational.

Bare saw his first action in more than a year in UTSA’s event, tying for 73rd with a 75-74-76—225 at the Trinity Forest Invitational.

Franklin and Martinez own stroke averages of 75.83 and 76.33, respectively, while Zurn has a 76.6 mark through five rounds this fall.
