WACO, Texas – The UTSA men’s tennis team will compete this week in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Texas Regional Championships, starting Thursday at Baylor's Hurd Tennis Center, the center of collegiate tennis for this season. The tournament runs through Tuesday and seven UTSA singles and two doubles pairs.
Representing UTSA in the Regional Championship singles will be Santiago Flykt, Luke Cantu and Sergey Haug opening in the qualifying draw, while Miguel Alonso, Oskar Grzegorzewski, Danijal Muminovic and Tiago Torres will start play in Friday’s main draw. In doubles play, the pairs are Sergei/Muminovic and Cantu/Flyckt. The seven Roadrunners will face high-level competition from within the 15 NCAA Division I men’s programs across the state that form one of the most formidable ITA Regions in the nation.
The ITA Texas Regional serves as one of the qualifiers for the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships that will be held Nov. 19-24, also at the Hurd Tennis Center, with the singles finalists and doubles champions earning spots in the national tournament.
The Texas Regional will feature 110 athletes in singles play. The tournament runs Thursday to Tuesday, commencing with two rounds of qualifying singles, while the main draw of singles and doubles begins on Friday.
Admission to the Hurd Tennis Center is free all week. Results and updated draws will be posted at the conclusion of each match on the tournament website. Live streams will be provided through Baylor’s Playsight.
