Jenkins named Preseason First-Team All-Conference

UTSA was picked to finish fifth in the American Athletic Conference's Preseason Coaches' Poll

IRVING, Texas – On Friday, the American Athletic Conference officially unveiled the 2024-25 Preseason All-Conference squads, with redshirt junior Jordyn Jenkins representing the UTSA women's basketball program on the first team. Additionally, the Roadrunners were picked to finish fifth in the Preseason Coaches' poll, receiving 96 votes.

The announcement comes ahead of the American Basketball Media Day, which will see Jenkins, junior Sidney Love and head coach Karen Aston as guests on a live ESPN+ broadcast that can be viewed here

Jenkins will add these accolades to her trophy case, which also includes a 2023-24 Preseason All-AAC second-team selection, as well as 2022-23 Conference USA Player and Newcomer of the Year honors. The award comes after she averaged 17.1 PPG and 6.8 RPG with 15 steals and 13 blocks despite only playing in the final 12 games of the season due to an offseason injury.

In her last full season, Jenkins charted 20.6 PPG at a 49.3% shooting clip and commanded the glass, hauling in 7.5 RPG. The Renton, Washington native set the school record for points across a season, cashing in for 659.

UTSA was slotted fifth in the preseason poll, following a season that saw them finish fourth in the AAC with a 10-8 league mark. The 'Runners reached the semifinals of the league tournament before receiving an at-large selection for the WNIT, representing the school's first national postseason appearance since the 2008-09 season. UTSA then made history on March 21, with an 80-62 victory over Northern Colorado in the Convocation Center, seeing the program's inaugural postseason win.

South Florida was chosen as the favorites, earning 135 points and eight first-place votes, while North Texas and Rice each scored 124, with three choosing the Mean Green first and two selecting the Owls as the top finisher. Just ahead of UTSA, Tulsa was fourth, with 98 points, while East Carolina (91), Memphis (84), Temple (78), UAB (55), and Tulane (40) rounded out the top 10. Finishing things off, Charlotte (38) was picked 11th, Wichita State (32) 12th and Florida Atlantic (19) 13th.
