FORT WORTH, Texas – An elite selection of UTSA women’s tennis players will begin competition on Thursday, Oct. 10, at TCU’s Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center, kicking off the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Texas Regional Championships. The Roadrunners’ traveling party features five singles players and two doubles pairs vying for their respective Regional Championships and an opportunity to move on to both Nationals in San Diego, California as well as the NCAA Individual Championships in Waco, Texas.
Representing UTSA in the Regional Championship singles will be Letizia Corsini, Ekua Youri, Arina Babenko, Natalia Castaneda Guerrero and Valeria Sanchez. In doubles play, Sanchez will pair with Babenko, while Youri and Corsini will team up. The five Roadrunners will face high-level competition from within the 19 NCAA Division I women’s programs across the state.
The Texas Regional will feature 112 athletes in singles play and 52 teams in the doubles portion. The tournament opens on Thursday at 8 a.m. with two rounds of qualifying singles, while the main draw of singles and doubles commences on Friday.
The finalists in singles play and the doubles champions will earn a spot in November's NCAA Individual Championships held in Waco.
Admission to the Friedman Tennis Center in Fort Worth is free. Results and updated draws will be posted at the conclusion of each match on the tournament website. Live streams will be provided through Playsight.
